Class Notes

2021
Rory Owen

Congratulations to Old Girl Rory Owen (’21) who made her NRLW debut this season with the Parramatta Eels.

Her debut game – only her third ever game of rugby league – was made even more special when she scored a try in front of family and friends at Suncorp Stadium!

While at St Margaret’s, Rory was a talented athlete and credits her athletics background to her fitness and running ability on the footy field.

We wish Rory all the best as she continues to pursue a league pathway while also balancing her university studies.

2021
Rosie Turnbull

Congratulations to Rosie Turnbull ('21) who has been recruited to join the Syracuse University Women's Rowing team.

Rosie's passion and talent for rowing was nurtured during her school years at St Margaret's. In her senior year, she was Rowing Captain and among the winning First VIII crew, and even after graduating, she continued to share her talent with the Shed as a coach.

Rosie then followed a pathway into the US College system, alongside another Old Girl and her Rowing Co Captain Primrose Carrigan ('21), studying and continuing her rowing training at the University of Massachusetts. Rosie is studying a Bachelor of Science majoring in Economics.

Earlier this year, she was selected to compete in the Under 23 USA Selection Trials, which serve as a platform for athletes to perform under international competition conditions.

We wish Rosie all the best as she continues to pursue her rowing training on the global stage.

2019
Lizzie Fowler

In August this year, the Class of 2019 had their 5-year reunion at Bar Pacino. It was amazing to see so many from our cohort back together again! Thank you to Ella Leavey (’19) for organising the night and for getting us all back together again. For those who missed the 5-year reunion, we hope to see you at the 10-year reunion in 2029!

2015
Meg Fraser

Congratulations to Old Girl Meg Fraser (’15) who stars in a breakout role in the movie Take My Hand – a tale of hope, love and resilience – in cinemas now.

Since leaving St Margaret's, Meg has pursued a career in acting, graduating from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. She has performed in many theatre works, appeared in TV series and starred in a short film. Take My Hand is her third feature film role.

1999
Mel Buttle

Catch Mel on the latest season of Taskmaster Australia. This Australian comedy panel game show, hosted by Tom Gleeson, is sure to be a hilarious watch. Mel and the other contestants must complete tasks set by The Taskmaster, with the winner of the series set to take home a trophy modelled after Tom Gleeson’s head!

Make sure you tune in to see Mel and other comedians battle it out. Good luck, Mel!

1998
Philippa Lee

It's always a fabulous day catching up with this gorgeous group of Old Girls at the annual St Margaret's Mother's Lunch, held at Brisbane City Hall. What a wonderful opportunity to reconnect and reminisce about our time at school. Every year, I stumble across yet another friend whose daughter has started her own St Margaret’s journey, which makes it even more special. I’m positive there were many more Old Girls in attendance, but trying to organise everyone to congregate on the stairs at the same time … herding cats comes to mind! Thanks again to the St Margaret’s P&F for taking charge of this event; it’s certainly a highlight on the school calendar.

1993
Emma Covacevich

St Margaret’s welcomed Emma Covacevich (’93) to the third Professional Women’s Network Breakfast of 2024.

Emma delivered an amusing yet eloquent speech, complete with anecdotes from her time as a student to the challenges of pursuing a law career.  If you missed out on a ticket, you can listen to Emma’s speech here: https://www.stmargarets.qld.edu.au/community/professional-womens-network

1988
Julia Lewis

Julia Lewis ('88, nee Croft) has been in the media and television industry for the past 25 years. She has her own production company Margarita Media and is currently in production for a feature length documentary. While the name for the documentary isn't about our St Maggie's, it is the name of the protagonist Maggie Bell.
