Sheena attended as a student between 1948-1951. Although a quiet student, she found her voice on the sporting field – particularly in what was then basketball but would later be called netball. As a student at The University of Queensland, Sheena would receive a full blue pocket for services to university netball.
Sheena joined the staff after a brief stint at St Aidan’s and was on staff at St Margaret’s 1956-1998.
She was also experienced in gymnastics – both coaching and judging. Sheena was heavily involved in the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) where she was State Women’s Coach for many years. Through her careful and meticulous coaching, St Margaret’s was the supreme lifesaving school throughout the QGSSSA competition. Sheena was honoured to have the State Secondary Schools Lifesaving Trophy named after her as well as life membership of the Royal Lifesaving Association.
In recognition of her contribution to QGSSSA over many years, the QGSSSA Percentage Trophy for Swimming was named the QGSSSA Sheena Dyason Cup.
Sheena also re-instated school ski trips in the 1950s. The school went to Charlotte’s Pass, Smiggins Holes, Kyandra and then moved to Thredbo. In 1999, Thredbo ski village acknowledged the school’s contribution to the village on what was the 40th anniversary of the first trip to Thredbo for the Maggies girls.
On her retirement, Sheena involved herself in volunteering in our alumni office.
In 2008, Sheena was named Patron of St Margaret’s (2008/2009) for her outstanding contribution to the school.
As recently as last year, Sheena attended the Old Girls’ Chapel and Morning Tea on our Reunion Weekend. In every respect, Sheena was a St Margaret’s girl to the very end.
