St Margaret's wins Best School Award

St Margaret’s has been recognised as an outstanding school in The Educator magazine’s 5-Star Best Schools 2025 Awards.

This inaugural award showcases institutions leading the way through innovation, strong support and a deep commitment to student development.

St Margaret’s is well known for its focus on student development through academic excellence, quality learning and teaching, and its commitment to pastoral care, together with a holistic approach to the education of the whole child.

The school’s vibrant extracurricular program is a key tenet of the school’s holistic approach to student development, offering a breadth of opportunities for students to find their passions in sport, and the visual and performing arts. These pursuits are explored in the school’s $20 million state of the art sports precinct and in the soon to be constructed Arts Precinct (construction is due to commence end of 2025).

Wellbeing is central to the St Margaret’s experience and its exceptional, well-rounded education. The school opened a dedicated student wellbeing centre, Community House, at the commencement of 2025, where a team of staff support students with their social, emotional, physical and academic wellbeing. Coupled with this is the palpable sense of community felt at St Margaret’s, is connection and belonging contributes to the wellbeing of its students.

Innovation is a key factor in St Margaret’s position as a leader in girls’ education. Recent innovations include the development of a groundbreaking AI Student Education Plan, Staff AI Usage Policy and the appointment of AI Champions, as well as the school’s development of Queensland’s only all-girls PC-based school esports competition, academic advising program, and the St Margaret’s Plus Mentoring Program.

A local school with a global outlook, St Margaret’s offers students a variety of international learning opportunities affording them the chance to develop their cultural understanding and literacy. These include the school’s signature Year 10 Global Exchange program, the primary Japan tour, international music tours and the US Space Tour.

St Margaret’s embeds career literacy and industry engagement into its academic framework, crafting a curriculum that is a transformative educational experience, ensuring every student is empowered with the skills and knowledge to thrive in higher education, employment, and beyond.

St Margaret’s Principal Ms Ros Curtis AM said the Best School Award was recognition of the school’s highly qualified staff who are innovative, collaborative and committed to the learning and wellbeing of students.

“It takes a village to raise a child, and this award really recognises the St Margaret’s village of staff who work tirelessly each day to provide an outstanding education for our students.

“It’s an honour to our St Margaret’s community to be recognised as one of Australia’s best schools,” Ms Curtis said.
