St Margaret's rowers had cause for celebration at the 2022 Head of the River. The rowers took out the Head of the River percentage cup and the First VIII were victorious in the ultimate race of the season.

Rowers celebrating win in the water

As best described by Rowing Captains, Georgia Campbell and Ruby Greenup, St Margaret's swarmed the dam and made their presence felt.

It was an outstanding result for all, particularly given the season's earlier setbacks of lost pontoons, rowing out of parks, and boating from beaches.

Jared Bidwell, Head of Rowing, said he was impressed by the spirt and performances of those who completed the season as a St Margaret’s rower.

“Personally, having been around rowing for many years as a rower, coach, and coordinator, I was blown away by the spirit of our rowers and by extension their community and the level of care and passion they displayed toward each other and their shed.

This is certainly a defining feature of our program’s success at St Margaret’s.

The premier School Girl 1st VIII race was one of the most exciting I have had the pleasure of watching.

A fast-starting St Hilda’s led from the start and put the pressure on from the outside lane.

Our crew closed it out in the last 20 strokes of the 2000m race, powering through the line displaying their determination and strength across the water.”

St Margaret’s congratulates the girls, coaches, managers, families, the Rowing Support Group, this season's sponsors who have supported the rowing program throughout 2022.
