Retirement Announcement for Principal, Ms Ros Curtis AM

At the end of Term 1, it was announced to the school community that after 16 years of dedicated leadership and service, Principal Ros Curtis AM will be retiring at the end of 2026.

Many Old Girls have been fortunate to have had their time at St Margaret’s guided by Ms Curtis’ leadership, and we as an Old Girl community will be very sad to see her leave. Ms Curtis has been a tremendous supporter of our alumni community, championing Old Girls through initiatives such as the Past Student Awards Dinner, the St Margaret’s Plus Mentoring Program, St Margaret’s Notables and many other examples.

Please find below the letter sent from Chair of School Council, Ms Lisa Worner, to all Past Students and current St Margaret’s families regarding Principal Ros Curtis AM and her retirement at the end of 2026.

Dear Past Students,

I am writing to inform you of an important transition in the life of our St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School. After 16 years of dedicated service and visionary leadership, Ros Curtis AM, has advised the School Council of her intention to retire at the end of 2026.

Ms Curtis has overseen an extraordinary time in St Margaret’s history and her profound influence will be felt for generations to come.

Ms Curtis has always championed the philosophy of the Society of the Sacred Advent and the school’s mission to prepare ‘confident, compassionate, and capable women able to contribute to a global community.’ With her commitment and unrelenting focus on creating the best environment for students to learn and grow, she has secured St Margaret’s reputation as an innovative and leading Australian school.

Since Ms Curtis’ appointment in 2011, St Margaret’s has flourished in academic excellence, providing enriching student experiences, establishing a strong values-driven culture under the St Margaret’ Way, and with significant transformation to the facilities on campus.

In fact, every aspect of St Margaret’s operation has been positively impacted by Ms Curtis during her principalship.

Under Ms Curtis’ leadership, the school has successfully transitioned from a traditional independent school to a global educational innovator and the School Council, on behalf of the entire School community, expresses its sincere gratitude for Ms Curtis’ exceptional contribution and enduring legacy.

In Ms Curtis’ letter to School Council, she shared appreciation for her career in education, culminating in the Principalship of St Margaret’s. She has indicated that it has been a pleasure to work in this wonderful community of students, staff, and parents alongside such a dedicated School Council.

In preparation for this significant transition, the School Council will undertake a careful selection process for Ms Curtis’ successor, and we are confident St Margaret’s reputation will attract outstanding candidates. Ms Curtis will ensure a smooth leadership transition through to the end of the year.

We will celebrate Ms Curtis’ leadership and legacy later in the year, however, in the meantime, I know you join me in expressing our deepest appreciation for her inspiring leadership.

Yours faithfully,

Lisa Worner

Chair of School Council
