Accolades for St Margaret’s Staff

St Margaret’s staff are of a significant calibre across all areas of the school. It is no surprise then that numerous staff have received nominations and the highest honour for numerous awards.

Principal Ros Curtis AM has received a Queensland College of Teachers TEACHX, Excellent Leadership in Teaching and Learning Award. Ms Curtis was among only 31 Queensland teachers recognised for outstanding contributions to their school communities and the profession.

Mr Brad King commenced his tenure at St Margaret’s in 1995, and this year has been named a Most Influential Educator 2024 by The Educator Magazine. During his time at St Margaret’s, the extracurricular music program has flourished, establishing strong pathways for students wanting to pursue their musical passions through mentoring opportunities, the support of First Nations students, and the creation of a strong music department overall. Several members of St Margaret’s teaching staff have also been nominated for the 2024 National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA). In the primary school, these include: Karen Andrews-Close; Regina Brennan; Brooke Calcutt; Jon Cox; Georgi Eadie; Melissa Garbutt; Belinda Knowles; Mary Komselis and Sarah Singleton. In the secondary school, these staff include: Kelly Alford; Colette Anderson; Adam Hand; Sarah Harre; Margot Johnston; Brad King; Alina Layton; Rebecca Neveu-Wirth; Tom Smithers and Nicole Walker.

St Margaret’s continues to be a leader in educational excellence, and it is wonderful to see St Margaret’s teachers being recognised for their work in shaping young women. Under the guise of the 2024 school theme, ‘Striving’, there is little surprise that St Margaret’s continues to strive for success in both its students and staff.
