From the OGA President - OGA eNews Issue 4, 2025

What a wonderful year we have had in our Old Girl community and in St Margaret’s 130th year!

We celebrated three incredible Old Girls at this year’s Past Student Awards Dinner – Prue Galley (’61), Ria Bhagat (’12), and Annabelle Brayley (’72). It was an honour to celebrate this event with these remarkable Old Girls.

The Old Girls’ Association was again a proud matching donor for Giving Day, helping to raise the record-breaking total of $1,215,804 – the largest giving campaign of any girls’ school in Australia. This is a testament to the wonderful connection that exists in the school community, and specifically within our Old Girl community.

Speaking of 'community and connection', a very fitting theme for St Margaret’s in 2025, we held yet another successful Reunion Weekend and Old Girls’ Day in July, where we welcomed back our milestone reunion groups and our VIPs. For our 2026 reunion cohorts – keep an eye out for emails from the school’s Development and Community Office regarding your reunion information.

The Old Girls’ Association was once again a proud supporter of the Aspiring Young Women’s Network (AYWN) series, an initiative focused on empowering current students in their career decisions. This year, we welcomed back Elise Gane (’04) and Georgina McManus (’97), who shared their career journeys and advice with current students. It was very special to see so many Old Girls who act as mentors in the St Margaret’s Plus Mentoring Program in the room with their mentees (myself included). Thank you to all the mentors involved in this program who help support current Maggies girls.

With such an exciting year almost at an end, it is only fitting to thank all those who make it possible. Thank you to St Margaret’s Principal, Ros Curtis AM, for your support of the OGA and fostering of connection between the school and its alumni community. Thank you to Lara Pickering – Director of Philanthropy and Stakeholder Engagement, and the entire Development and Community Office, for helping facilitate Reunion Weekend and our other very important OGA events such as the Past Student Awards Dinner.

Thank you to the 2025 Executive: Lucy Angelini (’94, nee Gibson) – Vice President, Lizzie Fowler (’19) – Secretary, Sally Thomson (’77, nee Harris) – Treasurer; as well as the 2025 Committee: Jacky Garnsworthy (’68), Norma Tucker (’66, nee Wight), Nicole Devlin (’90, nee Bender), Bronwyn Ninai (’16), Maggie Wu (’16), and Lilly Devlin (’18).

As the Class of 2025 finish their external assessments, I look forward to welcoming them into the Old Girl community. It is so special to see this community continue to grow and become more connected with each other and St Margaret’s.

Reflecting on my first year as President of the Old Girls’ Association, it has been a privilege to attend so many wonderful events as a representative of our community. I look forward to another year of connecting with you all. I sincerely hope you enjoy the final OGA Newsletter for 2025, and I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
